ATEX zones are areas characterized by (or likely to have) explosive atmospheres, i.e., mixtures of flammable gases and air, fumes, vapors, or dust in concentrations that could cause fire or explosion.
For some time now, the Lombard company has been bringing Kiwitron products to full operation in environments characterized by potentially explosive atmospheres.
In fact, Excen‘s transformations help make Kiwitron’s safety solutions even more versatile, adapting them to workplaces where gases, vapors, mists or dust are a potential source of risk.
Today, KiwiEye‘s first transformation enriches the partnership with a success case.
We present the recent case study here, illustrating the vast possibilities that the partnership between Excen and Kiwitron opens up.
The acronym ATEX stands for “ATmosphères EXplosibles”-the potentially explosive atmospheres found in specific work environments. The ATEX reference standards ensure safety through both environmental provisions and the imposition of technical requirements.
Legislative Decree No. 81 of 2008 requires the Employer to conduct an assessment of the specific risks associated with the presence of explosive atmospheres.
Complying with these regulations is essential to prevent accidents and protect the lives of operators.
Having already proven the effectiveness of transformations on a variety of Kiwitron products, Excen recently focused on explosion protection of an optical sensor with KiwiEye artificial intelligence installed on Toyota forklifts and intended for use in Zone 2 at a chemical company.
The Toyota trolley and the optical sensor with KiwiEye AI, as well as every new machine and equipment undergoing processing, have been carefully studied, evaluated and tested by Excen’s technical department and in the company’s laboratories, certified by a third party for pre- and post-production testing.
Thanks to the partnership with Excen, Kiwitron’s occupational safety products are now fully capable of operating in ATEX zones.
For the Sasso Marconi-based company, this is a major competitive advantage, opening up opportunities to install its solutions in the chemical, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, petroleum, distillery, printing, coal storage, sugar refineries, tobacco production industries-and many others.
For Excen, these are extremely specialized applications, on high-tech devices with very wide distribution.
A valuable opportunity for collaboration between two Italian excellences.
